| Why
Read A FAMILY GATHERING?
We
at Falcon Creek Publishing Co. agonized over what to place in the
space you're reading. Course, we considered the usual " blurbs."
You know, purchased testimonials from folk you likely never heard
of, from publications you probably never read. We decided, no!
We
thought about excerpts titillating bits that would, hopefully,
make you drool with anticipation regarding Deborah Yvonne Davis,
and the rich, southern flavor of her "tragedy to triumph"
story. We surely could have done that.
But,
what if doing so would have given away too much about Deborah and
her beloved Gram d 'lena; about the bigotry; about the racism; the
family turmoil; black-on-black hatred; the brutal murders; brother
Matthew's rage; Florinda Batiste's voodoo curse; June Boy's affliction;
Big Baby Jesse's downfall; Mr. Peabo's pool hall 'bidness; Miss
Ruby's Whore House; Ms. Jasmine's southern charm; Mr. Lonnie's Honky-Tonk
joint; the mysterious Jude Barsteau; the dead BMW; unforgivable
lies told Samantha, and Mabel Davis' real...? Okay, take a breath.
You get the point.
If
we had unwittingly revealed the real Jonathan Reed, son of the richest,
most powerful man in the stateand close friend of then governor,
and future President, William Jefferson Clintonyou would not
have forgiven us. And we would have certainly deserved your eternal
scorn.
So,
we restrained ourselves. Our better judgement prevailed. We decided
to trust your judgement; your intelligence; your power of perception,
and your ability to decide for yourself whether to read, or to not
read this unprecedented literary work.
Gene
Cartwright's saga spanning 26 years of Deborah's lifebeginning
at age five has been fourteen years in the making. It deserves
to be experienced in its entirety.
Still
not sure? Permit us to humbly suggest you read the poem, "I
Weep No More" It
is in the beginning of the book. Read the first few pages...the
first chapter. We will respectfully defer to your opinion...your
honest review. (myAFGreview@falconcreekbooks.com)
